Hear It From Me

Annette Moore AKA Crowned Regal

Being bald is no laughing matter, especially for women, for whom society closely associates a woman's outer appearance with her beauty, health, success, and status. And one woman is trying to change people’s perception to see that “bald can be beautiful, bold and stylish.”

Annette Moore aka “Crowned Regal” is a 58-year-old professional woman who was diagnosed with scarring alopecia in 2007. “Hair is considered the crowning glory, especially for women and losing it can be devastating.”, says Annette.

Annette Moore's first hint of hair loss was a decade ago. At first, she didn't think much of it. She chalked it up to getting older or not eating right.

She camouflaged bald spots with hair weaves, hair wraps and wigs. Then one day  while in the shower she realized the problem was worse than she thought. She noticed a lot of hair going down the drain.

Annette says, "I panicked, went to the mirror to lift my weave and from the front of my hair line, all the way to the “crown” of my head. The hair was gone."

Annette learned from a dermatologist she had alopecia, an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss.

Hair loss in men is largely genetic.

In women, it often has a combination of causes: hormonal shifts such as childbirth, menopause, or even starting a new birth control pill, are the most common cause.

Thyroid problems, autoimmune diseases like lupus, and even hair grooming can also be factors.

In Annette’s case, she was originally diagnosed with two forms of alopecia, scarring alopecia (CCCA) and alopecia totalis. Later the totalis developed into another form of alopecia called alopecia universalis. For Annette, the loss was permanent and that sent her over an emotional edge. “Emotionally, it affected me, my family, my work, etc.

So, as a website developer and computer analyst, she decided to reach out across familiar territory - the internet to bring attention to this little-discussed health and social issue, that not only has obvious physical change but also brings with it the potential for psychological pain.

Annette’s shares her story and communicates with thousands of people across the country and abroad through her social media websites and her Crowned Regal website. Annette says sharing her story has helped her heal. And now it's helping other men, women, and children suffering like she did to cope with their severe hair loss.

Annette’s website features her very own journey of realization, tribulations, and severe depression, and ultimately a rediscovery of herself. Her mission is now to help others dealing with this shattering loss through increased awareness, information sharing and networking opportunities within the region, nationally and even globally. Annette’s content rich website for her complete and painfully-candid story, photos, online video journals and links to helpful resources on alopecia. In addition, you will find links to her YouTube videos, her awareness campaigns, and information on how to contact Annette to set up motivational workshops and seminars with regards to hair alternatives, self-esteem, acceptance, information, and beauty when faced with this most unpredictable disease, alopecia.
